Libby Library Computers

The library has five computers available for public use. Each is timed for 60 minute sessions.

Patrons and visitors must be at least 14 years old to access public PC’s without adult supervision.

Public Access Computer Use Policy

All patrons are urged to read the computer use policy carefully BEFORE logging on.  A copy of the computer use policy is available on the login screen of each public computer.

The Internet allows us to expand the walls of our library and offer access to ideas, information, and commentary from around the globe. At this time, however, it is an unregulated medium, and the library staff can neither monitor nor control the information and materials derived from this source nor is it possible to employ the usual selection criteria used for other research mediums. Users must accept responsibility for determining the accuracy, timeliness, and appropriateness and legality of information and/or material found on the web. The library also accepts no responsibility for damage to personal computer equipment due to material downloaded from these unregulated sources.

GENERAL USE GUIDELINES:
Please wash your hands before using library equipment. No food or beverages in the computer area PLEASE!!! Please present your library card before logging in and notify the person at the desk when you are through.

Cataloged material must be checked out for use.

PATRONS MAY NOT: Use their own USB Flash drives, CD’s or software on library workstations, nor may they save or download material to the hard drive on any library computer. If it is necessary to save files, see the librarian at the front desk for a USB Flash drive, available for a very nominal fee.

COST: There is no charge for the use of the public units, but there is a charge of 20¢ per printed black & white page and 75¢ per printed color page. We can also send faxes for $1.00 per page and can provide a cover sheet if needed. As noted above, USB flash drives are available at the checkout desk and may be purchased for $3 each. They are to be left here at the library. We will put your name on it and save it for you to use each time you come in. Once it leaves the library it cannot be used in our computers again. The cost of the disk may be charged to your library card provided you do not already have outstanding charges on your card.

INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY: It is easy to copy material from around the world from the net or from research tools on CD-Rom, but work that is not yours and/or copyrighted materials must be properly identified and used. Failure to do so will expose you to penalties for plagiarism and copyright violation.

THE LIBRARY RESERVES THE RIGHT to end access to any websites or files that are degrading, obscene or profane and therefore offensive in a public setting. The session will be terminated.

OTHER LEGAL RESTRICTIONS: State and federal statutes cover, but are not limited to; system intrusion, harassment, data privacy, fraud, theft of services and so on…  Generally speaking, if it is prohibited behavior on the phone, face to face, or in newsprint, it is also prohibited on public use computers and the internet.

ANY INTENTIONAL MISUSE OF EQUIPMENT WHICH RESULTS IN DAMAGE TO HARDWARE, SOFTWARE OR NETWORK SETUP WILL BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE USER AND COULD RESULT IN CRIMINAL PROSECUTION.
